Bitter Gourd Seeds

Bitter Gourd, locally known as කරවිල, is a highly nutritious and medicinal vegetable widely used in Sri Lankan cuisine. This local variety produces medium-sized, dark green, deeply ridged fruits with a distinct bitter taste. Rich in vitamins A, C, iron, and antioxidants, bitter gourd is well-known for its health benefits, including blood sugar regulation and digestive support. It is commonly used in stir-fries, curries, sambols, and even herbal drinks.

How to Grow Bitter Gourd :
1. Soil Preparation – Use well-draining, nutrient-rich soil with organic compost.
2. Sowing Seeds – Soak seeds overnight before planting 1 inch deep, spacing them about 1.5 to 2 feet apart.
3. Provide Support – As a climbing vine, bitter gourd needs a trellis, fence, or stake for healthy growth.
4. Watering – Keep the soil moist but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
5. Sunlight & Care – Requires full sunlight (at least 6 hours a day) and occasional fertilization to boost fruiting.

Harvest Time:
Bitter gourd starts producing within 55-65 days after planting. Harvest when the fruits are still green and firm for the best taste and texture.
