Long Beans Local (මස් මෑ) is a traditional Sri Lankan variety known for its long, slender, dark green pods with excellent taste and texture. This variety is naturally resistant to local climate conditions, making it a reliable choice for home gardeners. Rich in fiber, protein, vitamins A and C, long beans are a nutritious addition to curries, and salads.
How to Grow Long Beans Local:
- Soil Preparation – Use well-draining, fertile soil enriched with compost.
- Sowing Seeds – Plant seeds 1 inch deep, spacing them 12-18 inches apart in rows.
- Provide Support – As a climbing variety, long beans require a trellis, fence, or stake for better growth.
- Watering – Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, watering consistently.
- Sunlight & Care – Requires full sun (6-8 hours daily). Occasional fertilization will encourage better pod production.
Harvest Time:
Long Beans Local starts producing within 45-60 days after planting. Harvest when the pods are young and tender for the best taste and texture.
