Snake gourd, locally known as පතෝල, is a highly nutritious vegetable commonly used in Sri Lankan cuisine. The TA-2 variety is known for its long, slender, high-yielding gourds with tender flesh and excellent flavor. Rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, snake gourd is perfect for preparing curries, many dishes and has many medicinal uses.
How to Grow Snake Gourd:
- Prepare the Soil – Use well-draining, fertile soil with organic compost.
- Sow the Seeds – Plant seeds 1 inch deep and space them at least 2 feet apart.
- Provide Support – Snake gourd is a climbing vine, so a strong trellis or fence is needed.
- Water Regularly – Keep the soil moist, especially during the germination and flowering stages.
- Sunlight & Care – Requires full sun exposure and occasional fertilization for optimal growth.
Harvest Time:
Snake gourd TA-2 starts producing within 60-75 days after planting. Harvest young gourds for the best taste and texture.
