Tomato (Local)
Tomato Local Seeds
Tomato Local is a traditional Sri Lankan variety known for its rich, tangy flavor and firm texture. This variety is naturally resistant to local climate conditions and produces medium-sized, deep red tomatoes that are perfect for curries, chutneys, sambols, and fresh salads. Compared to hybrid varieties, these tomatoes have an authentic, homegrown taste, making them a favorite in Sri Lankan kitchens.
How to Grow Tomato Local:
- Soil Preparation – Use fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic compost.
- Sowing Seeds – Plant seeds in a seed tray or directly in the soil, about ¼ inch deep.
- Transplanting – When seedlings have 4-5 true leaves, transplant them to a sunny location with at least 2 feet of spacing.
- Watering – Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. Avoid wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases.
- Sunlight & Care – Tomatoes require full sun (at least 6-8 hours daily). Provide staking or support to help plants grow upright and bear healthy fruits.
Harvest Time:
Tomato Local starts producing within 60-100 days after planting. Harvest when tomatoes turn deep red for the best flavor and texture.
