Winged Bean Red (දඹල ) is a traditional Sri Lankan variety known for its distinct reddish-purple pods, high nutritional value, and vigorous growth. This variety is rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and essential minerals, making it a superfood for a healthy diet. Every part of the plant, including the pods, leaves, flowers, and tubers, is edible and widely used in stir-fries, curries, and salads.
How to Grow Winged Bean Red:
1. Soil Preparation – Use fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost or organic fertilizer.
2. Sowing Seeds – Soak seeds in water overnight before planting 1 inch deep, spacing them 12-18 inches apart.
3. Provide Support – As a climbing vine, winged beans need a trellis, fence, or stake for healthy growth.
4. Watering – Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, watering regularly.
5. Sunlight & Care – Requires full sunlight (at least 6 hours daily). Occasional fertilization encourages better yield.
Harvest Time:
Winged Bean Red starts producing within 60-75 days after planting. Harvest when pods are young and tender for the best taste and texture.
