Okra (Haritha)
Okra Haritha Seeds
Okra, known as බණ්ඩක්කා, is a widely loved vegetable in Sri Lanka, rich in fiber, vitamins A and C, and antioxidants. The Haritha variety is a local, high-yielding type that produces tender, bright green pods with excellent flavor and texture. This variety is ideal for stir-fries, curries, and soups, offering both nutritional and medicinal benefits, including improved digestion and blood sugar regulation.
How to Grow Okra Haritha:
- Soil Preparation – Use well-draining, fertile soil enriched with organic compost.
- Sowing Seeds – Plant seeds ½ inch deep, spacing them 12-18 inches apart in rows.
- Watering – Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but avoiding waterlogging.
- Sunlight & Care – Requires full sun (6-8 hours daily). Occasional organic fertilization helps in better yield.
- Weeding & Maintenance – Keep the area weed-free and prune excess leaves to encourage better pod formation.
Harvest Time:
Okra Haritha starts producing within 60-70 days after planting. Harvest the pods when they are 3-5 inches long for the best tenderness and taste.
